Items disappearing

I was trading with Aerophic and I gave him gold boots in return for a banner.

I threw the boots, and they disappeared. Is there any way you could get them back for him? He doesn't have them, and neither do I.

Or could at least someone tell me what happened and why?

I think items might have despawned, I have heard others about it

They were probably cleared during clear lag. You will not be able to get them back. Next time just look in chat and it will give you a warning before ground entities clear. :)

This has happened to me many times, if you drop them in certain areas of spawn they will just disappear, I recommend going to a course somewhere and doing your trading there :>

I tried doing that too, and the item despawns. You just have to be lucky and find a good spot where items don't despawn, and then just do all of your trading there.
