It's a Java server. There's no cross-platform; that's Bedrock.

Java Edition and Bedrock edition are different, you have Bedrock (ps4,pc,xbox,mobile,ns) you need Java which requires 26 dollars and a pc for it to run

To add to what noah said, you want a pretty good pc, though I know some java edition players run Minecraft on macbooks. Minecraft needs a good amount of RAM, and it's heavy on the graphics.
In general, if you want to play java edition, just go on the Minecraft website and look up the requirements and make sure that you have a PC that meets those requirements. My laptop technically doesn't meet the requirements graphics card wise but I gave it more RAM so it runs okay, just have to turn my graphics settings down.
