So I built this magnificent trumpet, and soon after it was done I found out there was already a trumpet map. I checked it out and its really basic, pretty much 2D, far inferior to my one (if I do say so myself). So I was thinking about continuing to make mine but as a harder difficulty (expert or insane), and would this perhaps give me a chance to be accepted despite the theme being done before???

If the theme is taken you can't make another that's what I've learned at least

You can use the same theme, just as long as the builds and names are different enough. If you make it another difficulty it's a plus aswell.
But in your case, if it ONLY is a trumpet i don't think it different enough to get accepted. If you build something else along with it (maybe a person playing it) there is a bigger chance to get accepted.
