Why do you want to become staff?
I've been tempted to apply for staff for a long time and decided to finally give it a shot. I love being helpful and always do my best to answer questions and guide people in the right direction. My hopes are to also become an active member on Discord and the forums, especially with suggestions and tickets -- where it seems most needed currently.
Further down the line, I would be interested in possible development as well. I'm just picking up coding in JS and C# as a hobby, though I am still very much a beginner. If that did ever happen, it would admittedly be quite some time before I have the experience for that role.
How long have you played on ManaCube?
I've played on Manacube for roughly two years and eight months, almost exclusively on Olympus.
How many hours a week can you dedicate to Manacube? I can do my best to dedicate 20-30 hours on the server a week. I work full-time with a fairly consistent schedule allowing me to be active on the server between 6-10pm EST.
What skills do you feel you have that will help the server?
I'm a quick problem solver. I can be approached with multitudes of scenarios, weigh my options, and respond correctly and concisely. I feel this would be crucial in handling mutes and bans, as well as supporting players with tickets and other issues.
I have my fair share of "people skills" and professionalism. Through both work experience and online, I am unmistakably patient and cordial when needed. I can help players with any questions or concerns they have to the best of my ability, and I can resolve conflicts and keep peace.
Less importantly, I know a decent bit of Spanish and can type very quick. Just things that might be helpful in chat from time to time.
What experiences have you had which could help you as staff? Most directly relating to Mana would be my experience as QA. I've been on the team for 10 months and have had a lot of fun so far. I believe being able to emulate the player base in both suggestions and feedback to the staff team has been crucial to tackle a myriad of issues that have come up. Most notably for me, testing new server features / realm resets has been my favorite part of QA. I'm a big troubleshooter, and testing everything -- deliberately trying to break everything -- has been very fun and I believe is something I am beneficial for. Similarly when I'm notified of / notice a bug, replicating it and getting as much info and testing done as I can is rewarding and easy.
I've staffed on a server previously, called Syn Society (now closed). It was a creative server and I was promoted to a moderator position that I held for a couple of months up until I resigned. Most of the help I provided was as a chat moderator as the server was small and close-knit. For the time (I believe I was 14-15 years old? It's definitely been some time) I believe I did a great job following their rules and punishment paths. Since then, I've of course matured and expanded upon myself tenfold. I firmly believe following the rules and paths on a large server like Mana should be no problem.
My current job as a tire technician and inventory manager has definitely brought out the skills I believe are invaluable as staff. As a tech, I've honed in on my teamwork, quick thinking, and teaching capabilities. The store I work at is one of the busiest in the region, meaning a constant flow of customers nearly every day of the year. We split up the workforce into groups of 2-5 depending on who is available, and work meticulously to keep our heads above water and save customers time. I will have all sorts of work orders set in front of me and seamlessly adjust to whatever work needs to be done. I also frequently train new hires to perform at the same speeds, and take leadership of my team when needed.
What three attributes distinguish yourself from other players that qualify you to be a helper?
Dedication. I can stick to something for a long time if I need to, regardless of how painstaking it may be. As staff I would dedicate to my activity and performance on Mana, Discord and the forums and stick to my role for as long as I can remain helpful.
I'm a quick learner. In my training sessions and onward, I can catch onto duties and expectations quick and can perform above expectation with minimal experience. If my responsibilities change or there is a new focus in staff, I can adjust and learn whatever I need to. I very rarely get overwhelmed with new information, as well.
I'm mature and friendly as I can be. Like I said above, I love being helpful and, even more so, I love playing in a positive environment. I do have crude humor and language I can rectify, but even as just a player I have no reasons to hate anybody and have become close with many of the people I see active. I wouldn't want to shift to a suit and tie staff, I would more so be a more polite version of myself. I would want to be welcoming, dependable and trustworthy.
Please explain what you believe the role of a staff member is.
In my eyes, a staff member has a legion of responsibilities boiling down to keeping players happy and active. Staff should moderate chat to ensure a positive environment and mitigate arguments and fighting. Staff should act as a gateway for concerns, suggestions, feedback and issues between the player base and admins/developers, as to keep it organized while making sure players are being heard. Staff should be prompt and informative on matters like appeals, tickets, reports, etc. so that players do not feel that their matters are being pushed to the side or ignored. Staff should also be fun and involved. I don't think anyone would enjoy a server of police-like staff members who don't play themselves or stay active in the community.
Are you able to use recording software? Yes. I can take and quickly use screenshots, screen GIFs, and record longer clips.
