Typically, how long do staff applications take to be reviewed and accepted/ denied.

Usually, staff apps take a week or two for community review, then the staff managers will decide if you advance to the reviewing stage. This can take up to a month. This is where the staff critically evaluate you to make sure you would fit well in the team. After that, if you're still good, they'd schedule a date for you to become official. So in total, up to 2 months.
But the time it takes to become staff should not be what you focus on. You should be active and doing the same things regardless of your staff application.
