Islands
When did you start playing on ManaCube and what does your activity look like?
I started playing on Manacube in February of 2018, starting on Survival. I played Islands from time-to-time during these years, however I started putting many hours into Islands starting in 2020. I am online daily, and on average spend 2-3 hours online per day. I am also accessible throughout the day via Discord.
Why do you want to join the QA team?
I would like to join the QA team because I am very knowledge about the gamemode and how it operates. Every time I play Islands, I am doing something worthwhile; whether that be building, completing tasks, conversing with other players, exploring the different isles, completing quests, or interacting with the other features Islands has to offer, I believe I represent a different kind of player who prefers to play at a more leisurely pace. This gives me more opportunities to find bugs and issues that others may not encounter, and provide suggestions the community will enjoy as a whole. While I have years of extensive prior knowledge on the gamemode, I am also well versed on current updates and how the server operates today.
Do you have any experience with game testing/quality assurance?
I was originally on the Islands QA team in 2021, however I had to step back due to starting college that fall. During my time on the team, I provided suggestions for the new upcoming season (e.g. constructing and providing a possible starter island, incorporating a more "pirate" theme to the gameplay), garnering ideas from seasoned players, and interacting with staff and other QA team members to work collaboratively on new projects.
What qualities or skills do you have that would contribute positively to the QA team?
I believe there are three main qualities I have that would positively impact the QA team:
1. Prior Knowledge:
As I have stated above, I have been on Manacube for about 6-7 years now, with Islands being my main focus starting in 2020. I witnessed the growth and evolution of the server throughout my time on Manacube, while still being able to understand and keep up with new features to this day. Also, my prior and current knowledge of the server is beneficial to new players who may be looking for a helping hand to get themselves started. In addition to being present for many years and being knowledgeable on the gamemode, I was also on the QA team in years prior. This shows I am capable of responsibility and I am present in the community, while also having what it takes to be a QA member. I worked very hard while on the QA team, however starting college was a very big adjustment for me, and I could no longer juggle Manacube and my schoolwork. I will be graduating college in spring of 2025, and after being in college for the passed 3-4 years, I have a better grasp on managing my schoolwork while also being able to enjoy Manacube.
2. Playstyle:
Compared to other players on Islands, I believe I have a unique playstyle that would be beneficial to the QA team. While I do not play as competitively as other players, I still participate in leaderboard and champion activities (mob kills, fishing, tasks, events, etc.), however I am not driven by leaderboard goals. Instead of focusing on leaderboards, I focus on prioritizing my Island, communicating with players both online and offline, and interacting with new features to ensure i am more knowledgeable on them. I do not spend time being AFK, as whenever I am online, I am present and interacting with the server. I am always open to conversation, and I believe I am a friendly face for those on Islands. Having a more laidback playstyle, I believe I have more opportunities to encounter bugs that others may not discover, and being present in the community allows me to hear suggestions from many different players.
3. Hard Work & Creativity:
I identify as a very hardworking and determined person, and I am always open to criticism. If there is ever a task that needs to be completed, I put all my entire effort into the task to ensure the outcome is satisfactory and the best work I can produce. An example of my hard work is reflected in Islands season 5, where my island was consistently among the top 3 islands on the top island leaderboard, and even being ranked the #1 island on the leaderboard for several consecutive months. Even though I played very competitively during this time, I was still able to enjoy my time through building unique and creative builds, interacting with features, and forming relationships with both staff and other players. I am very familiar with the players on Islands, and I love hearing their suggestions and opinions. My creativity is also one of my best strengths, as I am able to produce unique and creative ideas and suggestions for the gamemode to use. If I were to be a part of the QA team, I would use my creativity to help produce new ideas for the Islands gamemode, apply my creativity when working collaboratively with others to help bring their ideas to light, and create insightful wiki pages.
Overall, I am a hard working player who is knowledgeable on the Islands gamemode and Manacube as a whole. I have proved myself as a strong player who is qualified be a part of the QA team in the past. Additionally, I am very involved in the Islands community and I consistantly engage with other players. Thus, I believe I would bring a positive impact to the QA team once again.
