you can download it for all of them it says you can download it for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's all for the same thing just click on the version you want to download it for.

Try using the Laby mod for 1.8.8 and connecting to mc.minevast.com I tried this and it worked for me

Minechat doesn't require any version of minecraft to join as it has no version. It's also just an app and you can't play on it so the Eula rules don't apply to it as it's just used to chat. So you can join minechat even if you have problems with minevast servers in general.
