The launch of the unmanned Cosmos 1 failed during June. The first stage of the Volna rocket that was supposed to launch the spacecraft failed and the craft was unable to achieve orbit and instead crashed into the Barents Sea less than a minute and a half after launch. Had it been successful, it would have been the first orbital spacecraft to use a solar sail to increase its speed in space.
In the year 2010, the Burj Khalifa officially opened. This building is the world's tallest building, and has 163 floors, it stands at a staggering 2,722 feet tall!

Albeit and obvious choice but its impossible not to mention, the moon landing occured in 1969. Humanity flew to space and landed on the moon for the first time ever, with the Apollo 11 landing with Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin aboard.
As a bonus fact, due to the first one being extremely well known, the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet also took off for the first time ever, going from Washington to New York with 191 people on board, most of which being photographers and journalists.
