Hi Laney,
Ableism is never okay, its sad that slurs such as the r word have become so normal in some people's vocabulary. I remember seeing a previous post on here about this topic and as a result Dacon added the r word to the in game chat filter, which is definitely a step in the right direction. It's very immature to make fun of someone specifically because they may have a disability and its sad to hear that some people don't realise this.
Just remember its okay to have a disability, it makes you no less of a person than anyone else <3

Honestly, it's really sad after how far we've come that people continue to use the r-slur in the discord. Since it was added to the filter in-game, it should also be added as a blacklisted word to the discord. It's completely unacceptable especially since Manacube is an official partner with Discord. Manacube must serve as an inclusive and accepting community. This isn't just about what me and Laney want for Manacube, it's literally part of the Discord Community Guidelines. The behaviour I've seen for myself on the discord is also a breach of the partnership code of conduct and is completely unacceptable.
I realize this isn't just something the staff can fix on their own- but together as a community, I hope that we can all work together to overcome these issues. To players, if you see someone making inappropriate jokes, don't be afraid to report it! Also, try to be more mindful of what you're saying- if it could hurt other people it's better to keep it to yourself. To the staff, please please PLEASE don't just tell us to block people. This is just a band-aid solution and as I mentioned, this behaviour is a breach of the partnership agreement between Discord and Manacube. I understand things may be different now, but before being banned from the discord, I noticed that many of the mods were inactive and only responded to pings in the help channels. If staff were as active in the discord as they were in-game, I believe it would greatly reduce the amount of conflict that ends up getting out of hand. I really hope things have changed since I was banned but by the sounds of things they haven't changed much at all. Again, if we all work together we can make Manacube a better place for everyone to be!

Staff should really start taking ableism more seriously, we've discussed this several times publicly and quite frankly I'm sick of hearing how badly moderated the discord is... I don't know when this happened, but saying "just make a staff report" isn't solving the problem- it might get the mod a slap on the wrist but the person who used the r-slur just gets away scot-free.
If any staff are reading this- please if you actually take ableism seriously then enforce the rules and quit letting ppl get away with using the r slur especially when they are calling someone it. I am so sick of people getting away with breaking the rules.

Not sure if you read my most recent appeal, but I know the language I used on the discord was completely unacceptable. Regardless of what happened between me and the community on the discord, I believe this is still an important issue which is why I am commenting on it. I have reason to believe the staff only acted in my case because they knew who I was- meaning most if not all of the staff at the time of the ban knew about my extensive punishment history so they were quicker to act. Let me ask you this, Sonic. Are you implying just because of my past history my opinion on this issue is less valid? Do you think that I shouldn't be speaking on an issue that has greatly impacted me and my best friend? Please, enlighten me, kind sir.
Really that was your reply. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you are something none of y'all know about me. I have asperger's syndrome. I am an the autistic spectrum or at least I used to be until the recent DSM got released a couple years ago. In which I was removed. Do to be so heavily functioning. The use of the R word or any words meant to target anybody is beyond hurtful. The people without a backbone big enough to stand up to these individuals or just trying to sweep it under the rug are doing as much damage if not more. I am not accusing you but I am questioning your response. The continual use in the community and the world is toxic and unnecessary. Actually to be more Blunt about it the R word in particular was originally directed at the severely mentally handicapped in the DSM like 30 years ago. It has since been removed as it was seen as a debilitating word to use. Literally no good came ever from ever using it. It is 2021 and it's time to stop allowing toxicity like this to exist especially in an environment that can be somewhat controlled and hopefully the world in the coming years. Oh and I'll end with this even with being diagnosed early on with asperger's I have since served in the US army, was stupid close to becoming an eagle scout and various other accomplishments. I doubt anyone would ever use the R word to describe me. Let's band together as a community that is supposed to be accepting of everyone to stop the hate targeted at various groups, LGBTQ+,The disabled and whatever else. End rant. Pyro out.

Manacube has come a long way... when I first started playing the n-word wasn't banned. Recently, the r-slur was added to the filter, I feel that this is a step in the right direction but we can't just call it quits now- we have to keep moving forward and learning to improve. Listen to the voices of the disability community! We might be different but that doesn't make us any lesser, and we still all deserve the same amount of respect as anyone else. Not taking action and continuing to sweep issues like these under the rug is disrespectful to us, and implies that you don't care about ableism and the struggles we go through both online and in real life. I do have hope for Manacube, but we have to continue working together to improve this server so it can be a safe place for anyone of any ability. Contrary to what many believe, a disability on its own is not disabling, it is whether you choose to be inclusive towards the disabled. All we want is for people to accept us, nothing more.

It is still an issue for sure and its one that has been discussed for hours in the staff discord. I am not belittling your opinion I am simply inferring that people who use slurs on our discord are punished appropriately and quickly as you were. If you have examples of this occurring where it has not been sorted utilise the player report section of the ticketing system.
Also as the current stance of the word here by Manacube that used in a non derogatory / overly disrespectful manner that it is allowed and whether you or I agree with that, that is the current status quo. These words cannot be impacting you on the discord because you do not have access to it. As for @laney she should utilise reports and if the word causes multitudes of distress she should discuss it with staff in an appropriate setting.
Also yes I find it hypocritical for someone using far more offensive slurs to get themselves banned is campaigning about the use of poor language in our discord. It does not mean your opinion is less valid than anyone else's it is just the fact that words and actions have consequences on how people judge you.

If you look at the etymology of words like Stupid or Idiot they once held a similar level of offence and meaning as the word you are talking about. I have no doubt it is offensive and detrimental when used in the right context but giving power to words to hurt you is something people can do something about. Not sure what this rant is targeted at but it is still punished for when used extensively or when used to make fun of disabled people. It might also be pertinent to mention that outside North America the word does not quite hold the same level of offence as elsewhere. This comment isn't meant to belittle it or otherwise purely to highlight a key factor in how and why we punish the use of the word as we do compared to stuff like the N-word or derogatory language directed at racial groups.

One time when there were people being rude/disrespectful I went to the staff privately and all of the staff I contacted said they were busy :)
Of course, this was a while ago, prior to the discord ban/mute. Any situations involving you and discord issues are at least 6 months old however if you have an issue please report the player. Staff absolutely understand the issue there are plenty of people from plenty of backgrounds. Same for Laney please report the player. Whether something is done or not has 0 effect on you as you are not part of our discord community. The suggestion that it's added to the discord filter has already been passed on previously.
