Skips that don't abuse bugs should be allowed

The current "speedrunning" model is quite dull, going the intended path all the time is boring! Skips (except the ones abusing bugs and the ones that skip 99% of the map" should not be lockable/bannable.

I'm honestly surprised that's not allowed. I feel like doing the map anyway possible as fast as possible (aslong as it doesn't involve glitches) would be encouraged but that's just me (then again I'm not a parkour player so maybe that's a hot take)

Using skips ruins the fun in doing the map the right way. I disagree with your statement.

its almost as if the parkour builder had the intention of people following the path. just a crazy idea though.

i don't think you can skip 99% of a map without using a pearl. the whole point of speedrunning is to see who can do the map the fastest. not who can cheat through it the most and get the best time.

"cheat through it" nobody is cheating, just using mistakes mappers tend to make quite a bit.
Besides skips are cool and fun

How many world records do you happen to have?
None, but that has nothing to do with it. I'm stating that I disagree, and think that any skip found should be patched, using these skips to cheese wrs doesnt sit right.

its not cheese, still requires skill to do fast.

if a map has a skip that can be abused by speedrunners, then it's a skip that can be used by anyone trying to beat the map normally.
small things, like cutting a corner by skipping a single jump is obviously ok, but if it's too gamebreaking then it should be patched.
besides, what even is the difference between skip abuse and bug abuse?

i think the fundamental difference is whether the skips take skill or just involve you hopping on a random barrier to skip 2 checkpoints or something. its completely reasonable for skips that just walk around the build and do no parkour to be patched, but i think provolone is saying cutting corners and bypassing certain jumps are allowed if its entirely possible to do within the intended path of the map itself. like, if im trying to get the colors world record im not gonna make sure i jump on every single block in the path when theres dozens you can jump right by

Imo it's up to the creator of the parkour to make sure that there are no unintentional skips so I don't think it's necessary to punish people for exploiting a maps flawed design. Obviously really big skips should be patched but locking people for using them seems overkill

if someone gets locked for using a big skip, its usually after they've used several big skips without reporting. you wont get locked for using one big skip

Most of the points made by some responding are true. Creators can only do so much, map judges do their best to catch anything that's left, and anything else is human error. Maps are designed to be done a certain way and we try our best to keep it that way, anything that makes a major difference should be patched.

Now there is a difference between little stuff like cutting a corner and major skips that cut off big chunks of the map or entire checkpoints. The difference is that the small stuff still follows the intended route but larger skips that are multiple blocks or entire checkpoints either utilize a wall/barrier that can be bypassed or straying from the marked route which creates an unfair playing field. (Due to it being secret, hidden by the discovering player, and unaccounted for by staff)

And last thing to address is what gets you in trouble. 1 basic principle, never abuse a skip or even use the skip without consulting a staff member if you don't want to risk getting in trouble. Repeatedly doing a skip for your own benefit instead of once or twice for testing purposes is abuse and may get you banned.

TLDR; Optimizing the main route is okay, skipping a considerable portion of the route is not okay, and always consult a staff member first unless you want to risk an abuse punishment.

I saw this thread get created last night, and I had to add my 2 cents. I feel like I have made a fair number of maps and have seen a number of skips around the server. In my opinion, the only skips that should be punishable are the ones built by mapmakers to shortcut their own maps (ie. the piston on the back of the head on vr-guy). If the map maker and judges and testers as well as anyone who plays through the maps while they are in beta miss a skip, I think speed runners and players alike should be allowed to use them. This is how speed running and playthroughs work in most any other game so I see no reason why manacube maps should be treated any differently.
